Corfu

Corfu

Lush green landscapes and contrasting white pebble beaches washed by turquoise blue seas. Corfu retains its own distinct Mediterranean magic with mile-upon-mile of glorious coastline to thrill and captivate visitors. Undisturbed natural beauty and spectacular scenery continue to be the major attractions on this delightful island. Ancient olive groves, fragrant pine woodlands and distinctive cypress trees look down over picturesque, crescent beaches of stone pebbles with a green backdrop provided by an ever present mountain interior. Corfu Town, known locally as Kerkyra, is well worth a visit for its fascinating blend of French, Italian and English heritage.

Dominated by two fortresses, the winding back streets of the Old Town lead to squares and a shady green park in the cobbled centre. The historic Venetian quarter is cosmopolitan with ample boutique shopping, excellent dining. Eating out on the island of Corfu is never an issue. There is nearly always a good choice of traditional coastal tavernas and typical cafes conveniently to hand offering a good choice of local dishes to cater for all tastes and budgets. And as the sun sets, don't miss the fresh catch of the day in your own favourite seafront taverna. This lovely, lush island still repays careful exploration. Off the beaten track, there are secluded coves and deserted beaches. After dark and well into the late hours of the evening, the more energetic will not be disappointed with the bars and nightlife in the more livelier resorts.
