Languedoc-Roussillon
Languedoc-Roussillon is one of the French regions with a Mediterranean coastline, including the coastal departments of Aude, Gard, Hérault, and the Pyrénées-Orientales. Languedoc-Roussillon also borders Spain to the west, with the regional centre Perpignan with its quirky language variations, close as it is to the Catalan province of its neighbour. There are miles and miles of sandy beaches which are popular with French holidaymakers as well as visitors, and the large naturist complex at Agde is a feature. The dymanic gateway of Monpelier has the oldest university in France, and beautiful Nimes is a delight to stroll around on a summer evening, dominated by the intact Roman amphitheatre where regular concerts are held by international groups and artists. Of course Languedoc-Roussillon is famous of being the largest wine-producing region in France and amongst its well-known varieties are Corbieres and Minervois. Add to this the invention of the famous dish Cassoulet and some of the best Blue Flag beaches in France, and you have a perfect destination.
