Jalon
Situated in the beautiful Pop Valley sits the peaceful village of Jalon (Xalo as itıs known in Valencian). The word ?Pop? certainly isn't derived from ?populated? as little Jalon has a sleepy population of just 2,086. The grape is king in Jalon and is used to produce some excellent wines. Wine is highly regarded here and many of the wines are available on a ?try before you buy? basis in the village wine cellars which is always an enjoyable experience. Siesta really means siesta here in the valley and during those few lazy hours the villages can appear deserted. Only the clinking of glasses and chatter of locals from the few bars and restaurants breaks the silence. Visitors are always welcome especially on Saturdays when the village bursts into life with a 200 stall antique market held on the river bank. Travellers in early September will witness the colourful sight of the local farmers queuing to deliver their grape harvest into the co-operative winery in the middle of the village. According to the locals 2005 was an excellent year for the harvest so the finest wines are expected to be produced and available from 2006!
