Frigiliana
A picturesque Andalucian mountain village 300 metres above sea level. Frigiliana has a resident population of 2,200 and is just under 40 kilometres square. Dating from prehistoric times the village has been inhabited by numerous civilisations. The Arabs had the greatest impact and Frigiliana has one of the best preserved moorish quarters in Andalucia. Frigiliana has been the site of many battles culminating in the famous battle of the Rock in 1569 which ended in the complete expulsion of the Moorish people. The delightful cobblestone streets and passageways are kept spotlessly clean and courtyards and terraces overflow with flowers. There are many good restaurants and a selection of bars, craft shops offering locally produced goods, boutiques and even a couple of wine merchants. A charming village where visitors always receive a warm welcome.
