Luz is a pretty little village, with a small selection of intimate bars and restaurants and one nightclub, only 2 kilometres from the busier town of Lagos with its lively bars and nightlife, the shopping town of Portimao is only a 20 - 30 minute drive away, depending on the time of year. A perfect location for those wanting a quiet getaway. The gently shelving beach with golden sand is backed by sandstone cliffs and the far end stills shows signs of volcanic activity from years ago, called Rocha Negra or Black Rock. The beach is blue flag and has life guards on duty, watersports are available from 2 centres on the beach. Evidence of Roman occupation dating back to 210BC can still be found here in the form of an Aquaduct, stone walls and even some mosaic tiles.
