Mahon
A fascinating city with a long and varied history. It it is rich in reminders of its Georgian past whilst still maintaining the lovely Mediterranean atmosphere of bustling pavement cafes, marvellous fruit and fish markets and town squares perfect for an evening stroll. A leisurely amble around Mahon will reward the visitor with intriguing architecture and some wonderful views across the deep water inlet. You will find a myriad of stylish shops and bars tucked away in cosy enclaves among the pretty streets. With the second largest natural harbour in the world, the waterfront will be a natural spot to wander. There are a vast array of good restaurants lining the whole length of the marina. Still more can be found on the quayside a little further east in the delightful harbour at Es Castell. The fiesta of the fishermen "virgen del carmen" is celebrated in June by a fleet of gaily coloured boats traversing the harbour during the course of an evening. Another is "Nuestra Senora de Gracia" during September.
