Palma, the capital of Majorca, combines all the elements of a modern, cosmopolitan city with history, charm and elegance. Bordering the sea it has a wide bay and two yacht marinas plus the elegant, palm fringed Paseo Maritimo snaking along the waterfront. A labyrinthine network of cobbled lanes run from the splendid Cathedral to the beautiful Plaza Mayor. The Cathedral (La Seu) dominates the skyline and stands near the Borne, a wide boulevard similar to the Ramblas in Barcelona. Just round the corner, the smart Avenida Jaime 111 is where department stores and exclusive designer fashion is to be found. Towards the west the streets become wider with elegant apartment buildings and large hotels. This is also where the major nightlife is to be found, from elegant piano bars to upbeat nightclubs.
